Thāj 1998 COLLECTION

Collection Design Concept:

This collection brings together the civilizations of Al-Faw and Thaj through a contemporary artistic approach that stems from my passion for discovering civilizations and seeking the hidden connections between them and the present. I drew inspiration for the pieces’ designs from the murals in the village of Al-Faw—specifically the wreath, vine branches, and grape clusters—and then reimagined them as fluid compositions that wrap around the body, as if they were fragments of a rediscovered ancient artifact.

As for Thaj, her presence is evoked through the plating of silver with 24-karat gold, a reference to the gold jewelry discovered in the tomb in 1998. This year holds personal significance for me, as it is also the year of my birth; from this, I imagined a connection between myself and a young woman who lived in a different era and left her jewelry as a testament to her story—as if I were meeting her today through gold and reinterpreting her legacy in my own way.

I depicted grape clusters using red and dark rubies to evoke the colors of the fruit as it ripens, symbolizing life, abundance, and transformation. The ruby also adds another personal dimension to the collection, as it is my favorite stone; therefore, its selection was not merely a matter of color, but it became part of my presence within the pieces and of the connection that binds me to her story.

The pieces were crafted from gold-plated silver using hand engraving and stone setting, to give each leaf its own unique details and texture. The collection does not simply reproduce ancient artifacts or symbols as they are, but transforms them into contemporary wearable works of art; it combines the symbols of Al-Faw, the opulence of Thaj gold, and a personal story that began with a chance encounter in 1998, leaving room for everyone who sees it to discover it and interpret its story in their own way
